NOTE:
The following two books are highly recommended for anyone
interested in hiking in the Columbia River Gorge:
Hiking the Columbia River Gorge

100 Hikes in Northwest Oregon
I personally own both and consider
them indispensible for hiking the Columbia River Gorge.

Difficulty: Difficult
Elevation: 60 to 2860 feet

Mountain Trailhead, between mileposts 53 and 54, park in the
pullout on the left.
Description:
This is a steep day hike with views of Mount Adams, Mount
Hood, and Mount St. Helens. This is a heavily used trail on
weekends. Loop opportunity with Augspurger Trail. The terrain
starts out somewhat elevated walking straight up the mountain.
Bring lots of water. This is not a trail for young children
or unfit adults. The trail is initially very rocky but after
about .7 miles becomes safer. Views from the top are spectacular
- Mt. Hood from the south and Mt. St. Helens from the northwest.
Visit Dog Mountain in the spring when the wild flowers are
in full bloom. What a reward when you get to the top! A Recreation
Parking Pass is required.
Features:
Wildflowers and outstanding views of the Gorge, Mount Adams,
Mount Hood, and Mount St. Helens.
