Tanner Butte Trail #401
Oregon
NOTE:
The following two books are highly recommended for anyone
interested in hiking in the Columbia River Gorge:
Hiking the Columbia River Gorge
and
100 Hikes in Northwest Oregon
I personally own both and consider
them indispensible for hiking the Columbia River Gorge.
Length: 21.9 miles round trip
(16.9 miles less if Forest Rd. 777 is open)
Trail Uses: Hiking
Facilities available: Parking
Season of Use: March to October
Difficulty: Difficult
Elevation: 2240
Visitor Use: Medium
Northwest Forest Pass Required

I-84 - Take Bonneville exit #40. If it is opne, turn south
onto Forest Service Road 777 for 2.5 miles and find the small
parking lot off the road, otherwise, park in either the Wahclella
Falls trailhead parking lot or the Toothrock trailhead parking
lot.
Description: Beginning in stands
of Douglas, noble, and silver fir, the trail switchbacks uphill
for 2.2 mils to the junction with Wauna Point Trail #402.
Continue on #401 and into Hatfield Wilderness for 2.1 miles
to the Dublin Lake turn-off. Tanner Butte is 4.5 miles further
south on #401, and provides a panoramic view of the Cascade
Mountain Range and the local Larch, Chinidere, and Indian
Mountains. To make this a loop trail, double back to Dublin
Lake and Head west on Trail #448 for 3.5 miles. The trail
connects with #431 and Forest Service Road 777 for a further
2.5 miles north back to the parking lot.
Features: The Hiker is rewarded
with views of Bonneville Dam and a chance for a summer swim
in Dublin Lake!
